Here is another beautiful encounter with a colorful artist, Olivier Julliand.
Aged 51, he has been working as a tattoo artist for 25 years now! He started this profession in the early 2000s at the age of 26, which was a little late according to him, but as they say, it's never too late to do what you love. Before discovering a passion for tattooing, Olivier worked in public works. That's when his brother opened his tattoo studio in Toulouse. The latter needed an employee and he offered to go work with him to teach him everything he knew. Olivier took the plunge, without really knowing what he was getting into and it became his passion!!
Olivier's artistic universe is generally based on cartoons. He loves anything animated, whether it's Disney, manga, vintage cartoons, and so on. He always tries to adapt all these styles to his own unique graphic style.
Becoming a tattoo artist wasn't in Olivier's plans at first, so he didn't have a career goal. Now, he's keen to evolve and progress as much as possible every day. The people he's met have helped him a lot in the long run. He was lucky enough to work with Yann (Your meat is mine) and Vincent (Bizzaroid tattoo), two tattoo artists he was a fan of when he started out, so for him, it's fantastic.
Oliver used to go to France twice a year, usually as a guest at his friends' engravers kwenn in Alsace, or in Switzerland at his friend Amy Mymouse's. He also goes to David de Pertuis's and he plans to return to Toulouse to do some guesting. Of course, he's really looking forward to being able to resume conventions and he sincerely hopes that they'll be able to do the World Tattoo Show again, which he says is an incredible convention. I can't wait for things to get back to normal!
There isn't much he refuses to do in terms of tattooing, as long as he feels technically capable and it fits into his artistic vision. There are so many good artists out there now. If he doesn't feel he's capable of doing a project, he'll refer to the right artist based on the client's request. Since Olivier has his own style, some themes are much more in his comfort zone. Like anything from Disney or video game compositions. He likes Japanese projects, flowers, animals, but all in a cartoon style, of course!
Just like in art, music and cinema, Olivier loves so many different things and there are so many incredible tattoo artists that he is unable to tell us who his favorite artist would be! Every time he browses Instagram, he is amazed at how high the talent is. The same goes for the most significant encounter in his career, he has met a lot of people who have brought him a lot. Both on a technical and human level! It is therefore impossible for him to give me a name.
The talent level is getting higher and higher, he says, so he feels he doesn't need to give anyone any advice - the artists are doing very well!
Olivier would like to say a huge thank you to all his clients for the past 21 years and to all his tattoo artist friends, he misses you so much right now! For his part, Olivier recently opened a Redbubble online store where several of his drawings and other products are available for order. Otherwise, you can always get some items directly from his tattoo shop. He's currently working on setting up a Bigcartel store where he'll be able to sell his original drawings.
